The climate is relatively dry and there are no strong windshere. Gorge and mountain slopes are covered with coniferous forests. Abastumani is especially popular when the pollination of pine begins. Due to its wonderful healing properties, Abastumani became a year-round resort for people with bronchial and lung diseases. At the end of XIX century the son of the Russian Emperor Alexander III, the brother of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, Grand Duke George Romanov, who suffered from  tuberculosis, spend a large part of his life here.
