The Best Wines 2017 Were Named in Georgia !

The International Wine and Spirits Exhibition ‘’WinExpo Georgia 2017’’ hosted the 9th International Wine Award 2017 on June 9-10. Large companies, as well as small, family cellars, totally 43 companies took part and presented 164 different types of wine at the contest.
On June 10, the awards were presented in six categories: gold (26 medals), silver (36), bronze (84) medals and international diplomas. The best wines of the year included “Saperavi Georgica 2013″(Red Dry) produced by the Shumi Winery and “Kvevri Green 2016” (Kvevri white dry) produced by the Company Kvevri Wine Cellar.
For the first time this year, the winners of the international competition were awarded with the following awards:
• Best White Dry Wine – Ivane Mukhran-Batoni Gold Medal;
• Best Red Dry Wine – Aleksandre Chavchavadze Gold Medal;
• The Best Red semi-sweet wine – Dmitry Kipiani Gold Medal
• The Best White semi-sweet wine – Dimitri Kipiani Gold Medal;
• Best White Kvevri Wine – Zakaria Jorjadze Gold Medal;
• Best Red Kvevri Wine – Zakaria Jorjadze Gold Medal.
The wines were evaluated by jury composed of enologists, international experts and specialists. The jury was presented by the Chairman of the Jury, Master of Wine – Tim Atkin, Master of Wine – Kenichi Ohashi (Japan), Master Sommelier – Isa Bali (Turkey), enologist Mikheil Meskhi (Georgia),Wine Expert Sarah Ebot (Great Britain), enologist -Gogi Dakishvili (Georgia).
According to the Chairman of the Jury Tim Atkin, Georgian wine has limitless potential, thereby, he noted, that the number of new companies participating in the competition has been increasing annually and wine sector in Georgia is on the right path and developing rapidly.
The 10 th International Wine and Spirits Exhibition WinExpo Georgia 2017 was held on June 9-11. This year 11 countries: Georgia, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine participated in the exhibition. 97 companies presented more than 170 products.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia and National Wine Agency of Georgia have been the official supporters of the WinExpo events for last 10 years.
